Everkesia Taylor is a poet, author, and entrepreneur dedicated to creating spaces where artists can share, connect, and be seen. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, she discovered her passion for poetry while studying Creative Writing at Blake High School, where she was inspired by literary icons like Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Al Young, and Rita Dove.
With a love for creative expression and a strong desire to make an impact, Everkesia pursued a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Saint Leo University. This education gave her the foundation to turn her passion into a thriving brand, blending artistry, business, and community.
The Birth of I Am Poetry
Everkesia created I Am Poetry out of a personal need—a need for a space where poets and artists could be heard, supported, and celebrated. She recognized a lack of opportunities for spoken word artists and wanted to change that, not just for herself but for an entire creative community.
What started as an open mic event quickly grew into a movement, bringing poets, musicians, and visual artists together to share their work in an atmosphere of acceptance and inspiration. The phrase “I Am Poetry” became more than just words—it became a statement of identity and empowerment.
Today, I Am Poetry is a brand, a community, and a platform that provides:
- Live poetry and art events that serve as safe spaces for creative expression.
- Poetic apparel that allows artists to wear their identity with pride.
- I Am poetry Foundation, which supports creatives through grants, resources, and skill development opportunities.
Everkesia’s vision is to continue expanding I Am Poetry, creating more opportunities for artists and building a physical space—the I Am Poetry Lounge—where creatives can grow, collaborate, and leave feeling seen and understood.
